Seabird Enterprises Seeks Community Support for Birdies for Charity


Birdies for Charity is part of the Traveler’s Golf Championship held at The TPC Golf Course in Cromwell, Ct. June 19-25th.  The Traveler’s donates 100% of their net proceeds to charity and raised Over $2.8 million last year.

Seabird plans to solicit donations for this year’s event by sponsoring a contest for free tickets at on-site locations and through social media. Please look for this information and the opportunity to “chip one in” for Seabird Enterprises.

Seabird Enterprises locations include Puffins Restaurant on Thames Street in Groton, Cottage Gardens and Bakery on New London Road in Colchester and The Victorian Restaurant and Bakery on Norwich Road in Plainfield.

Seabird Enterprises is a 501 (c ) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing vocational and day programs for individuals with developmental disabilities in eastern Connecticut. Seabird strives to offer a diversity of programs including food service locations, greenhouses & woodshop/craft programs, a therapeutic riding program, mobile landscaping and building maintenance crews.  Seabird also supports individuals who are independently employed in the community at local businesses such as grocery stores, garages, retail and food service establishments.  Seabird has four locations open Monday through Fridays.

Cottage Gardens – 460 New London Road - Colchester. A country style bakery open to the public for breakfast and lunch which specializes in tasty sandwiches, cakes, fresh made pizza, soups and other goodies.  

Puffins Restaurant – 169 Thames Street – Groton.  Historic restaurant with a deck that overlooks the Thames River and serves breakfast and lunch.  Puffins is a favorite breakfast spot for local residents and visitors to the area alike.  

Riverview Farm and Greenhouse 129 Massapeag Side Road - Uncasville.  A working horse farm with a PATH certified therapeutic riding program and other animals for individuals to learn care and responsibility while gaining a sense of accomplishment.  

The Victorian House – 159 Norwich Road  - Plainfield.  A quaint old Victorian serving delicious breakfast and lunch in a friendly home style atmosphere.  Adjacent is the Village Bakery known for over 15 flavors of fresh made pies and a full array of breads.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of Seabird Enterprises to develop and provide programs including socialization, vocational training and job opportunities in community settings for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities.  We strive to develop and maintain programs that promote dignity, self-worth, self-confidence and preparation for life in the community.  We continually survey the personal goals of all individuals and develop programs that fulfill these goals.  We will create business and social ventures to meet these goals if there are no applicable opportunities currently available.  We value diversity and ardently strive to be a true reflection of our community.  It is our goal at Seabird that all our individuals, through our extensive training programs and job opportunities, will be prepared to participate in a productive community life.
