National Hospice Month

November is National Hospice Month.  A month set aside to reflect on and increase awareness of the very special care that is available to anyone facing a life limiting illness.  Hospice cares for any age individual; from infants to those over 100, with any life limiting illness. Not just cancer but Alzheimer’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), heart disease, kidney disease and others as well.

Center for Hospice Care is the premier community based, non-profit hospice care provider to the residents of Southeast Connecticut and we have been your neighbor since 1985. During National Hospice Month, we want to remind you that Center for Hospice Care assists patients and families to live life as fully as possible. We want to help you enjoy time with seriously ill loved ones by offering education on what to expect, helping everyone to understand their choices and asking what is important for them to achieve their goals. We strive to assure pain management and excellent symptom control, and help families with their duties as caregivers, assuring the dignity of every person.

This is also a time to remind you that you don’t have to face such difficult times alone:  Center for Hospice Care’s Interdisciplinary team of nurses, home hospice aides, social workers, trained volunteers, spiritual care providers and bereavement counselors work with our Medical Director and your primary physician to thoughtfully care for you and your family.  We care for you in your home, in area nursing facilities and in the area hospitals.

At Center for Hospice Care, we like to say, “Sooner is Better” when it comes to hospice care.  You don’t need to be in the last days or weeks of life to qualify. Contacting hospice care sooner allows us to help you more.  Our care is about living – living well in the time you have left.

Thank you to the hospice professionals and volunteers on our team, our Board and most importantly, thank you to our patients and families. We’re privileged to be allowed into your home to provide this special care, are proud to be your community hospice, and we are here for you.
