Thames River Heritage Park Water Taxi Launches with New Later Hours
New London, CT: Launching for the season on Friday, May 25, 2018, the Thames River Heritage Park Water Taxi will be extending its operating hours on Friday and Saturday nights to accommodate riders crossing the river for dinner and evening events. The new hours are Friday noon to 10 PM, Saturday 10 AM to 10 PM. and Sunday and holidays 10 .AM. to 9 PM through September 16, 2018.
In addition, service to Fort Trumbull will stop at 7 p.m. and will run between City Pier and Thames River Landing every twenty minutes beginning at 7:20 pm. For a detailed schedule go to http://www.thamesriverheritagepark.org/water-taxi/ - schedule.
Now in its third season the water taxi connects Fort Trumbull State Park in New London to the downtown New London Historic Waterfront District and Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park in Groton.
The Thames River Heritage Park is a collection of national and historic sites along two shores of the Thames River that tell the stories that shaped our nation during the past 400 years. In 2017 more than 2,200 people rode the water taxi visiting sites, dining out or just enjoying time on the water.
Ticket prices remain the same as last year: Adults: $10, Children ages 4 -12 and Active Military: $5. Children 3 and under: free. Season Passes are $50 for adults and new this year is a $30 Season Pass for children 12 and under.
It is a hop on-hop off ride in which visitors can board the boat at any of the three landings and can tour at their leisure. Heritage sites within easy walking distance of the water taxi stops include, in Groton, the Avery-Copp House, the Ebenezer Avery Homestead, Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park and the Subvets World War II National Memorial East and, in New London, in addition to Fort Trumbull are the Nathan Hale Schoolhouse, the Custom House Maritime Museum, the Shaw Mansion and the Hempsted Houses.
